§ 01 Overview
Overview
Lipophilic cation that enriches ubiquinol in the inner mitochondrial membrane to scavenge ROS; improves endothelial function in older adults.
Rossman 2018 RCT in older adults; Gane 2010 in HCV.
§ 02 Mechanism
Mechanism of action
MitoQ is a ubiquinone molecule conjugated to a triphenylphosphonium cation, which drives accumulation in the negatively charged inner mitochondrial membrane. There it scavenges ROS at the point of production.
